Introducing Carmilla.jpg

Once a high ranking alchemist at the Dwonach Tower, Carmilla should have been content. As one of the most brilliant minds in all of the land, she had power, respect, and lived in not inconsiderable comfort. Yet for Carmilla, it was never enough. She wanted more knowledge - more than even the vast libraries of the tower could offer.

Carmilla set out on a journey across Feorrland to expand her alchemical horizons. From the assassins of Ogros to the wise women of Dunoranach, Carmilla learned all that she could. One evening during her travels, she was approached by a mysterious cloaked stranger. After much discussion about arcane and alchemical theory, the stranger made a bold claim - she could offer Carmilla immortality. As an immortal, Carmilla would be able to devote an eternity to learning.

Carmilla was no fool - she knew exactly what the stranger was, and the price of what she was offering. The temptation was too great for Carmilla however, and she accepted the offer. She spent one last day as a human, said goodbye to the sun, and returned to the stranger.

As the moon rose the next night, Carmilla awoke no longer human. Despite having read about Feorrland's vampires, Carmilla was unprepared for the hunger. Like a feral animal, she drained seven cows of their life before coming to her senses. The stranger was amused, and told her that there was a sweeter feast in the neighboring village.

Although she was still somewhat shaken, Carmilla told the stranger in no uncertain terms that she would never feed on a human. She wanted immortality to expand her knowledge for the betterment of humanity, not to feed on it. The stranger chuckled. "You say that now, but when you change your mind.... well, you'll be able to find me".

Carmilla continued her travels - now at night- and quickly realized that she had to adapt. If she strolled into a town or village as freely as she had previously, the locals would react with fear and hostility. Carmilla realized that this was the real price of her immortality.

With her combined alchemical and vampiric powers, Carmilla is a formidable ally-especially if you want a healer that also packs a punch.

Trivia

  • Carmilla is the name of the protagonist of the 1872 novel of the same name. The book is about a female vampire, and is one of the earliest known works depicting Vampires, predating Dracula by 26 years.
  • Carmilla's bat, Ozzy, was named through a user-submitted Twitter poll.
    • The name is most likely a reference to musician Ozzy Osbourne, specifically referencing an incident in which he bit the head off of a live bat that he thought was a rubber prop.
  • One of the concepts for Carmilla's design was a Monster Hunter, who's design elements were instead integrated into the Night Hunter's armor set[1].
  • Carmilla was conceptualized to be a Holy Alchemist to fill out the gaps in the Hero roster, with the concept of her being a former nun fighting for justice; however this was scrapped in favor of making her a Logical Alchemist instead, with the future Holy Alchemist role going to Ayako[1].
