The Battle of Arkan was a large-scale battle between King Eskar's forces and the invading Dark Ones. It is the most significant battle in the history of Knighthood, involving many of the game's Heroes and establishing the setting and threats of the main game's story.

Beginnings

King Eskar lost contact with the neighboring country of Arkan, and sent a troupe of soldiers to investigate, including Lance and his best friends, Urmas and Urmas' brothers Markus and Rasmus. Upon discovering the Dark Ones' portal to their dimension, the troop was attacked and Lance was the only one to make it back to warn of the impending force.

Being the next line of defense, King Eskar sent out a call for aid to anyone who would respond. This included the Alfar sending their mages such as Titania, the Dwarven Clans sending their warriors led by King Dvalin, and the Easterngard, who sent their battle alchemists such as Millicent. She and Serra grew to be fast friends and planned strategies against the Dark Ones. Sola travelled hundreds of miles by herself to aid King Eskar. Anaara of the Southern Plainspeople foresaw her own death in the battle, and chose to join willingly.

The Battle

The battle took place over an unspecified amount of time, with the Dark Ones tearing through Feorrland (creating the Demons there), and infecting White Peak but seemingly being held off at Highgard. Millicent single-handedly defended an entire regiment against a Dark One. Anaara died defending her platoon long enough for them to rally a counterattack.

Vordrai, called upon by King Eskar, redeemed the image of the Blood Mages by defeating many of the Dark One's forces alongside the alchemists and Sola, but ultimately died in battle.

The Froskur, led by the Demon Lords, fought alongside the Dark Ones, though Balberith defected on the battlefield and joined King Eskar's side in the fight.

Dvalin led the Dwarven Clans in defending White Peak.

After much fighting, the Dark Ones were eventually driven back into their dimension, and Titania used her magic to close and destroy the portal at the cost of her own life.

Aftermath

The Dark Ones were driven away, but not after heavy damage to both the people and the land, with many warriors and creatures becoming corrupted by the Dark One's influence and structures such as the Onslaught Dungeon remaining as markers of the Dark Ones' power. Dvalin constructed a statue of Titania to honor her sacrifice.

Survivors

Known survivors of the battle include:

  • Millicent and Sola - lived to be best friends into old age
  • Dvalin - continued to reign as King of the Dwarven Clans for years
  • Balberith - Lived the rest of his life on the outskirts of Wickfen in Mirefen, wearing a poorly-made human disguise.
  • Serra - lived to old age

Casualties

Alongside Titania, Vordrai, and Anaara, King Eskar himself died in the Battle of Arkan.

The total casualties of the war on the side of King Eskar's forces were 12,870 injured, 8209 dead, and 137 missing (split between desertion, capture, or MIA).[1]
