The Tengu is a Demon Monster unique to the Demongate Special Event. It is a winged, red-skinned yokai with balding white hair and beard, wearing green and brown clothes with metal bracers, sandals, and an orange beaded necklace.

Its Great Tengu form has darker clothes with silver bracers, its skin becomes yellow, and its hair and wings become bright red.

Combat

The Tengu has high armor and very low health, and deals Ranged damage, but does not ignore armor like most Ranged Monsters. It's Power is Transcend, which transforms itself into Great Tengu and fully restores its health and armor, while giving a small burst of healing to the Knight as well. In addition, it gains triple health and armor and a 50% Critical Damage bonus.

When Great Tengu is hit with a Punch or Weapon attack, it gains the Regenerate Status Effect for 1 turn. This effect stacks every hit, resulting in a massive tick of healing with a single turn.

Attacking charges it's new Power, Revert, which turns Great Tengu back into Tengu, restoring its health and armor to full and giving a small burst of healing to the Knight as well.

Great Tengu gives 600% more Event Points than Tengu, encouraging the player to avoid killing it until it uses Transcend, and then killing it before it can Revert.

Trivia

• In Japanese folklore, the tengu (天狗) are a yokai typically depicted as having human, monkey, and avian characteristics.
• The Tengu in the first round of the Otakemaru fight does not have the Transcend power. It is unknown if this is intentional or a bug.
• The Tengu is the only Ranged Standard Monster whose normal attack does not ignore armor.
